Visual storytelling

12-13 October 2013, at Vryssaki, 17 Vryssakiou Str., Plaka, Athens

This topic bears its starting point in a research we made to the power of visuals in the realm of education and therapy, especially to children with learning difficulties. The festival brings together works of art where the composition unfolds various narrative possibilities. These narratives are not linear or structured, but they emerge in the space between the viewer and the work. The content of the exhibition opens up many different possibilities for storytelling, through a path of visual reading and discovery.

Our aim as a whole was to present visual storytelling as a basic element of contemporary civilization, especially in the arts, learning, therapy and communication. While visual storytelling dates back at the beginning of humanity, today our communication is increasingly acquiring visual characteristics, to the point that simulates what we describe as a “visual war”. The exhibition will be accompanied by parallel happenings like playback theatre, workshops, kids laboratorium, living sculptures, e.t.c.

Participating artists: E.Alexandri, H. Apostolopoulos, G.Vritia, Marta Grossi, O.Evangelidou, N.Zanou, D.Kaliviotis, N.Kanarelis, N.Kotamanidou, D.Liakoura, G.Maraziotis, V.Botoulas, S.Papadaki, Cacao Rocks, Eri Skyrgianni, V.
